We love this monument near Mario Pizza. Nurken Abdarov (my translation) was a WWII pilot, and a Karaganda native. Apparently he found a German unit on the move on his way back from a mission. Being out of bombs, he used his airplane (and himself) to halt their progress. Here he is shoving the yoke forward, and the arrow shaped rail makes a very dramatic statue.
Spring thaw in Karaganda. The road crews have turned in their snow shovels for brooms, and are busy sweeping up the dirt and debris that has been covered by the snow. There were a couple of days when the city was like a giant mudpuddle. The storm drains were clogged with melting ice, and the water was litterally axle deep.
Katja and Artome hanging in the Apartment.
Nothing adds to your living room decor like laundry on a drying rack.
Tonight at 6pm we are venturing across the street to Al and Sara's apartment for dinner. Julie and Will are also going to be there. It will be the first social engagement for Katja and Artome. We are looking forward to getting out of the apartment and catching up with what the other WPA families have been up to.
Snacks and juice after a 2 hour afternoon nap. Just like at the Baby House.
They're both fascinated with looking into this mirror in our bedroom.
